UNDERSTANDING IS EVERYTHING.
MEET YOUR TEACHER
Guillaume Basso | Yoga Professor, RYT 500
Guillaume Basso has practiced yoga for more than twenty years, beginning his study as a young ballet student in his native France. What first complemented the physical demands of his dance training developed into a lifelong practice and a deeper exploration of the relationship between body, breath, mind, and well-being.
After an international professional ballet career with Houston Ballet II, The Joffrey Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet, Guillaume pursued formal yoga teacher training, completing his 500-hour certification in Sampurna Hatha Yoga under the instruction of Sri Yogi Hari. His teaching is rooted in this tradition and in the belief that meaningful practice begins with understanding.
As a teacher, Guillaume brings together decades of movement experience with a thoughtful and attentive approach to each practitioner. He emphasizes clear instruction, purposeful progression, and an understanding of why and how we practice—not simply the achievement of a posture. His goal is to help practitioners work safely and efficiently while developing greater strength, mobility, awareness, and ease.
At Jai Yoga, Guillaume teaches both Hatha Yoga Flow and Yin Yoga, welcoming beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Through active practice, breath, stillness, and relaxation, he encourages students to explore yoga as a complete and evolving practice—one that can support greater health, clarity, peace, and joy both on and beyond the mat.

THE MEANING OF JAI
Jai means victory in Sanskrit.
In yoga, this victory is not competitive. It is the celebration of a moment of resolution: entering a new pose, discovering a new quality of breath, overcoming an obstacle in practice, or reaching a meaningful goal on the mat or in life.
Jai also celebrates the relationship between teaching and learning. Because yoga means union, we believe teacher and practitioner share an intention: to work together toward understanding, progress, and transformation.
We believe yoga becomes more meaningful when it is understood. A posture is not only a shape to achieve, and breath is not simply a technique to perform. Understanding their purpose allows practitioners to work with greater precision, efficiency, and awareness.
Jai Yoga is inspired by Sampurna Hatha Yoga—the yoga of fullness—and rooted in the Sivananda lineage. This tradition approaches yoga as a complete practice, caring for the many dimensions of the human being through proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, and positive thinking.
Our classes explore this balance through both active and receptive practice. Hatha Yoga Flow develops strength, mobility, concentration, and a deeper relationship with the breath, while Yin Yoga offers a quieter complement through stillness, release, and deep relaxation.
Together, these practices create opportunities to care for the body, refine the breath, steady the mind, and cultivate a more peaceful and joyful relationship with ourselves and the world around us.
